Multi-generational planting! As part of the redevelopment of the banks of the River Oise initiated by the commune, this planting was organized with the involvement of children from the commune’s kindergarten to CM2 classes, thanks to the benevolent supervision of the elders and the municipal team, personally involved in this citizen planting.

A large number of children were mobilized in this way: the town and the Boomforest team took it in turns to raise children’s awareness in advance in each classroom and offer educational workshops adapted to all ages. After the planting, the Maurecourt teams decided to legally protect the site through the Obligation Réelle Environnementale: the trees are thus protected for 99 years, come what may! A great first for a citizen plantation, we can only be delighted.

Before planting: this small meadow has remained untouched by trees, despite the natural recolonization process taking place in the surrounding areas. According to the local authorities, the site is in fact a former shipyard (the numerous metal fragments found in the soil during preparation are consistent with this…!).

The soil was first turned over mechanically, with the help of a local farmer.

As for the manure, it was incorporated by the hard work of the commune’s employees, whose energy and joy always complemented their efforts! Congratulations once again to Anthony, the commune’s communications assistant, who followed this plantation from start to finish and spared no effort to give it shape!

The ground was turned over, the debris removed, and the soil amended with manure brought in by a local farmer. All set!

Once the ground was well prepared, the agents came to mark out the area with a wooden fence.

Activities for raising awareness in classes

Before the planting, the Boomforest team visited classrooms to talk to children about trees and forests.This workshop invited the children to mimic the growth of a tree, going as slowly as possible, to get a feel for the notion of time.

Decks of cards have been created, each representing a stage in the tree’s development, from seed to adult tree.Objective: in small groups, try to put them back in the right order!

Between workshops: we gather the children’s thoughts and share what they already know about trees and forests. Some are already very knowledgeable!

This time, the children are in the field: with each class, we explain what we are going to do and present the planting stages.

When welcoming the very young, it’s absolutely vital to always have enough adults to accompany and guide them.

At Maurecourt, intergenerational transmission is no empty word. When the elders put on their boots to supervise the children, we know that the project already makes sense!

After taking it in turns all week to plant in relays, at the end of the week the children brought their parents back to complete the planting. Clever kids!
