Planting period : november 2021
The most urban of Lyon’s “Miyawaki” plantations. Since November 2021, a 400m² island of nature has been flourishing here, much to the delight of local residents. Around 40 species were planted by 150 people (including primary school pupils and the mayor of Lyon), the majority of them local (a few exceptions were made to the method following substitutions by the nurseryman). Its location on the north side of a building between two roads helps to reduce the urban heat island, which is particularly pronounced on this avenue. On the other hand, it is a slight hindrance to the growth of the plants, which have less light and suffer from very dry summers, not to mention a very aggressive bindweed. However, most of the young trees have survived, providing a haven for insects (before birds move in over the next few years). A praying mantis was observed at the end of 2023. This plantation will be monitored to assess the impact of urban micro-forests on biodiversity.
Planting location: mound between rue Bara (around no. 20) and avenue de Lacassagne (where Jean-Baptiste Guillot suare is located), Lyon 3
